1. Are you doing an internship anywhere this summer? If so, how is it going?

Yes i interned at an advertising firm. It was cool. It was boring too at times. I was supposed to go for the second internship but I chose not to because i wanted to be back home and enjoy. :D

2. Have you travelled to any place ineresting this summer?

Oh yes to Gurgaon, Haryana in the afternoon in a local bus from Delhi. The temperature was 43 C. It took me 2 and a half hours to reach Gurgaon and then another hour in a shared auto rickshaw and a cycle rickshaw to locate the place i was supposed to reach. I had five mineral water bottles to keep me sane during this HOT journey which was far more interesting than the place.

3. Have you met any interesting/strange/funny/intriguing/i-got-restraining-order-against-them type of person this summer?

The son of the family I was staying with as a Paying Guest. His name is Guneet. He forcibly blutoothed me amazingly ugly phone themes. I still have them to show all you guys. I have never seen anything like them or him actually.

4. What has been you favourite food you have eaten?

Pepper Chicken with white sauce. Awesome. :D

The greatest break-up story ever told.

The first coolest thing about the film, it's not just another version of the Ramayana. Director Nina Paley uses the age old story to tell 'a tale of truth, justice and a woman’s cry for equal treatment'. The movie goes something like this...

"Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both the ancient tragedy and the modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic RAMAYANA."

The next coolest thing about the film is its unique treatment. Nina uses multiple visual styles like cut-outs and flash animation which guarantees to keep the viewer enthralled at all times. And then there are the characters themselves. Ram, Sita, Hanuman etc. are delightfully simple yet fun interpretations of those we have seen in textbooks and paintings. The three narrators talk in authentic Indian accents and highlight of the film...a cast ranging from flying eyeballs to rishis to demons all dancing to the tunes of 1920's jazz artist Anne Hanshaw. How's that for innovation!

This is her first feature length film and you have to give the woman credit for having pulled off this feat herself. Everything from the story to execution has been done by Nina over the course of 5 years. Her hard work has definitely paid-off with 'Sita' bagging many awards and honourable mention at film festivals around the world.

The movie is definitely something to look forward to and following many successful screenings, I can’t wait to get my hands on it myself.

New Discovery

Scientists may have cured cancer last week.

Yep.

So, why haven’t the media picked up on it?

Here’s the deal. Researchers at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada found a cheap and easy to produce drug that kills almost all cancers. The drug is dichloroacetate, and since it is already used to treat metabolic disorders, we know it should be no problem to use it for other purposes.

Doesn’t this sound like the kind of news you see on the front page of every paper?

The drug also has no patent, which means it could be produced for bargain basement prices in comparison to what drug companies research and develop.

Scientists tested DCA on human cells cultured outside the body where it killed lung, breast and brain cancer cells, but left healthy cells alone. Rats plump with tumors shrank when they were fed water supplemented with DCA.

Again, this seems like it should be at the top of the nightly news, right?

Cancer cells don’t use the little power stations found in most human cells - the mitochondria. Instead, they use glycolysis, which is less effective and more wasteful.

Doctors have long believed the reason for this is because the mitochondria were damaged somehow. But, it turns out the mitochondria were just dormant, and DCA starts them back up again.

The side effect of this is it also reactivates a process called apoptosis. You see, mitochondria contain an all-too-important self-destruct button that can’t be pressed in cancer cells. Without it, tumors grow larger as cells refuse to be extinguished. Fully functioning mitochondria, thanks to DCA, can once again die.

With glycolysis turned off, the body produces less lactic acid, so the bad tissue around cancer cells doesn’t break down and seed new tumors.

Here’s the big catch. Pharmaceutical companies probably won’t invest in research into DCA because they won’t profit from it. It’s easy to make, unpatented and could be added to drinking water. Imagine, Gatorade with cancer control.

So, the groundwork will have to be done at universities and independently funded laboratories. But, how are they supposed to drum up support if the media aren’t even talking about it?

All I can do is write this and hope Google News picks it up. In the meantime, tell everyone you know and do your own research.

Well I know a lot of you want a DSLR for your work or just for TP, but in any case now would be a good time to go
out and get one. Canon has come out with the EOS450D which will be released in India
soon and then you can say goodbye to your chances of buying a new 400D. Plus the prices are also gonna rise as the tax on electronics is going to be increased. Right now you can get a 10MP 400D for 24k in grey with the 18-55mm lens, which is a pretty good deal IMO.

Soooo if you don't already have a cam and can blackmail your parents into buying a DSLR for you, do it now before it becomes more expensive for them. :P

One day a man was passing a classroom. He was super depressed in his life. He needed some entertainment to get away from the shallow life of his. So he decided to enter this classroom.

Seeing him enter the students remained stunned for few seconds. The next few minutes passed by discussing the number of students in the class. For that too, the depressed man appointed few students to sit(actually stand) and learn numbers in the form of their friends!

While the selected victims remained busy, the super sad and depressed man moved a lot from one place to another... and during this course of action his eyes fell on the word 'art' in one of his papers. This brought him to think about the movement his body made that led him to this word!
During this deep thinking session, the students were getting impatient with his unpredictability. So to shut the chatter boxes, he thought lets give them something that will steal away their sleep and peace of mind for the next few minutes(actually days). The word 'art' was running in his head.... and the movement of his body..... Oh my GOD! movement...body....art....art...move....arrr....mmuuuu......movement ....art....Oh my God! ART MOVEMENT! EUREKA! Lets give them some work on these two words.... and just for fun!!! (exactly in Russell Peters way) ask them to chew off their brains!

By the way ...... Rudolf the red nose rain deer ...had a very shiny nose...and if you ever saw it...pack your bags and ..let us GOOOOOO

A feeling of helplessness

While working today, i realized just how mentally exhausted i was. i have been churning out similar ideas for the past week. All has to be illustrative, all has to be fun. Although that's what i want it to be. But then All fun and no seriousness will make my work dull too.

And then in college i feel that i am a part of the Mahabharata. My mind is waging a war against any professor that comes to over burden the already burdened mind and soul (exception: M. Patel) Its a constant battle that i have to put up with and throughout the day i have this angry young girl look on my face which makes people think I'm perpetually pissed off with them that they will do anything to ignore me.

I'm completely helpless. And i want this damned presentation to finish but then, there are no ideas in this squeezed and drained creative side of my mind.

This eye clinic is very weird. At least today it is. They have sprayed some sort of chemical inside the-block-of-a-clinic that's making everyone's eyes water. Even the receptionist, poor thing! it looked like she would have preferred jumping off a cliff to this tear-inducing/God-please-take-my-eyes-out-now experience!!
The outside of this establishment ain't any better. I should know, I'm sitting here. While writing just the previous line, I must have stopped at least 4 (make that 7) times to shake-off them rotten mosquitoes that are just waiting for my arm to be still for more than a minute
[BURN in HELL!! you damn insects!!]

last note: I like this song. I like writing while listening to this song. This must be the 28th time I'm listening to it. I will get bored of it soon. But till then, let's try making it a century :)

Today's newspaper: A ten year old boy's life was tragically cut short when a Municipal bus ran over him , and his brother saw the incident happen.An angry mob consisting of people from surrounding areas then proceeded to throw stones at approximately 40 of these buses as a payback for what had happened....
A 3rd standard girl was cruelly branded 4 times on her hands with a red hot fork by two of her tutors for not doing her homework..
Reading this stuff made me wonder: is barbarism innate in all human beings??We seem to derive immense pleasure from another's pain..But just when i had lost all faith in haumanity, i came across an article which appreciated the efforts of a few people who have taken it upon themselves to help the stray dogs in the city.
So who is the exception here? The 'good' people or the 'bad' ones??
Guess it all depends on our point of view.We can choose to be what we want....a cynic or an optimist.

Yes, I finally saw ‘JUNO’. My friends kept blabbering about the film since the time they had seen it. Manasi and Sanjyot even placed a bet on my review of the film. The verdict is I liked the film. Sorry Manasi you lose. I have essentially become fond of the remarkable soundtrack of the film. In addition, Ellen Page is an incredible actor.

but my heart and mind disagree to this. i don't feel like nineteen..

getting to the point, i am so happy today. i feel like smiling every moment not letting any moment pass by me.

it started with everyone in the corridor standing and singing for me, it gave me absolute pleasure to be the centre of attention for that point of time.. the cake being stuffed in my mouth, the group photograph of everyone i know in the hostel.

the endless phone calls and then a hurried effort to look good for lunch was how i would describe my day. lunch was fabulous as it was fun to see all fifteen of us sitting on the table and having a meal like how a family should..

and at the end the best part was when Mukhrit came.. and i was super duper happy...

well now my birthday has come to an end. all i would want to do is thank everyone for making it fabulous for me..

While watching this film, it struck me(quite hard at that!), as to how one man could command such obedience. And that too not from just a few people, but from an entire nation!

There was one scene in particular. Hitler, having finally reached his hotel, stood at his window looking down at at the teeming millions that had gathered...screaming, cheering and saluting him(and how!)
All that fanfare, for one person. A single man!

And he just stood there. Basking in the glory and admiration literally thrown at him by those who had acknowledged him as their great leader.

I know that stuff like this has been written before, canvassing Hitler, his personality, his atrocities and what not. And I guess that it is proof of how he will never cease to amaze us. A character so caught in our imagination that he will always make us wonder...how?

There is a line about him that that i found quite fitting:

The enlightening trip to mulshi

There are few things you do everyday and without them your day is just not a day! everyday you brush your teeth, bathe, pee, SHIT! (Yes the last one is in BOLD)
I never imagined how this one mundane activity of a human being could possibly affect the mind ....soooooo much! But my poor darkened understanding received light, thanks to the study trip to mulshi.

This trip (as we were told) was a 'study' trip which God only knows why it was held in Mulshi. I mean i know the place is damn beautiful and all( which truly it is), but still why?
Anyway...getting back, yes! So my class of 60 (which usually is 30 on the normal lecture days) had to be transported to this place in a 54 seater with material such as printer(yes yes printer in a village called mulshi), speaker (probably to announce in the village that we are here we are here!), drawing boards (mind you for every student), a black board (aahan black board it is) with 5 to 6 dozen of tinted sheets and mount board...oooh oohh...and pots too..like 60 of them! All this in a 54 seater local travelling bus along with 60 students, 2 profs and their luggage. Woah! An event in itself. Who needs to go to mulshi? Lets stuff ourselves in the bus like cotton and party man!!!

After 2 and a half hours of the painful journey(literally), getting out of the bus felt like paradise!
The food served there was amazing for all four days!( woah i miss it like mad) Thankfully we were blessed with proper maharashtrian food. Our resting room was as big as my kitchen in which 9 of us had to sleep with no fan and a 10watt bulb. At first we contemplated whether the luggage should sleep in or us?? But everything fell in place when 2 went to the profs room and other 2 left the next day!

There were around 8 'cottages' surrounding a lawn, a kitchen and 3 bathrooms and toilets. And all this on a far off mountain with a river flowing below.
Food was the highlight of the day amidst warli painting, chitrakathi painting and village documentation that we were asked to do.

The first day began with 2 loos clogging under the pressure of 60 human beings. The following morning, the last and only hope to free our stomachs from the pressure gave in. The tolerable ratio was 1:60 ...but after this tragic incident, none:60! woah! time to take tension, but that too was dangerous! We diverted our minds and wandered to the riverside, the shack...the lawn and conveniently ignored the topic of food. By this time few students had lost hope and returned back home.

Luckily by evening we could free ourselves from the underlying pressure. every one came out with huge victory smiles and relief!

The sun down was the best! The only activity left was to lie down on the grass and stare at the gazillion stars flaunting their beauty and glory.

Consciously or unconsciously every one counted the hours back to the time when we were suppose to depart. I remember, when everybody saw the bus arriving , they all ran towards it like a cattle herd. The whole trip was filled with tensions,frustrations, fun times at the shack, the river, the lawn and all.

By the end of trip, a lot of students had left earlier. So the journey back home was a little better than the former one.(Thank the Lord!) All in all this trip was full on masala maarke kinds!

PS: The trip was a lot more eventful and fun than it sounds in this piece of writing!

Pathetic escape...that's what it was. Given the way we did it, I'm pretty sure that we would have made pretty lousy convicts! And this wasn't the first time. Recall the time when we tried sneaking out of college to go to Lonavla? Stealth would have been the very last thing you would have called it. Running-like-idiots-in-plain-sight was more like it.

To those who were there...racing through the dry grass and thorny bushes with me...you know what I'm talking about :)

Depression .. is this wave of hopelessness that washes over you over a period of time

but for me it just happens. i don't like it.. it just takes the happiness out of me like there is nothing left inside me. breathing takes place like an unknown side activity. it is the only thing that keeps you from dropping yourself into a black hole of nothingness..

And if by any chance you give up hope and there are no friends hanging around you, your are sure to fall into that hole and not feel a thing. you would become a walking, working mechanical human being.. like a zombie but not a machine.

You will be incapable of showing emotion. everything you loo at feels tasteless. it feels like everything is burning, but you cant hear the screams. you watch it burn in front of you. but you do nothing about it. you cant get up and enhance it, because you have already slipped into this world of insanity.. correction you have slipped away from the insane world to a slow sane one

well manohar gave us this topic of illustration..
and when he said that we can use a lot of mediums.. i had this wild thing in my mind of absolutely bizzare things.. i had thought of using mirrors.. then doing some thing on tissue paper..
and then something on gateway paper..
it seems quite amazing the amount of things you can think of when someone tells you that the medium is important and that you will get marked for it..
and then while looking at other people's work, i found out that they had just taken different pices of paper and jut drawn or rather trac their image without understanding the medium..
What i am trying to draw attention to is that everyone is different and that you cant use the same receipe of work on them..
well we already know about this but then various assignments bring to attention the most obvious and the not so obvious things of life.
Design has a lot of impact on our life. knowing.. unknowingly it affects us in such a way that it gives drastic turn in our life... be careful with what you and what descisions you make.

HAlleluia!!!! It finally closed! The box which I have been at for over a month has finally closed!!!Now I don't know what animation assignment we are going to have later on...or if we are even having a class for that matter, but for the time being, it sure feels good.

I was in the animation lab yesterday talking to Vajra and Hiren. They were telling me about something that had happened in their second year when they were room mates. The story involved an autorickshaw...and how that they had tried to model that same rick on the computer...with neither of them having any friggin' clue how to do it!

And now...both have achieved so much..in other words, I'm pretty sure that they can model anything on the comp now.
Where am i getting with this? I'm sure that this is what goes through the heads of most of my classmates...will we ever be good at what we do? can we reach the level our seniors have attained( because by god! they are good at what they do!!)

And yesterday, I realized why not?...If Vajra and Hiren had to start somewhere, i'm pretty sure we are there already. There are two more years left for us to go in SID...there is a lot to learn yes, but we will get there.

And then I am pretty sure we'll also have a story about a rickshaw to tell our juniors.

Here's to the long road ahead...it ain't that scary.
